As Exponent Energy the company expanded beyond pilot cities, sales operations began to face scalability constraints. The lead funnel had grown complex, with multiple parallel sources, OEM-generated leads, direct B2C inquiries, and retrofit-specific opportunities, each requiring different workflows, verification steps, and field coordination.
However, the existing B2C lead management system operated in isolation from Exponent’s core ERPNext platform (Project Watchtower). This disconnect resulted in fragmented data, inconsistent follow-ups across regions, limited visibility for leadership, and manual handoffs between sales, field teams, and operations. Additionally, Exponent’s demo-first sales motion and retrofit approval requirements demanded a level of workflow flexibility that standard CRM setups could not support without risking long-term maintainability.
Exponent needed a modern, scalable CRM that could unify these complex sales journeys while remaining tightly integrated with ERPNext and safe from future upgrade disruptions.
Benefits
By adopting Frappe CRM and extending it through a dedicated custom application, Exponent Energy was able to design a CRM system tailored to its unique EV sales and retrofit model. The open-source nature of the Frappe Framework allowed Exponent to implement deep customisations, such as demo scheduling workflows, multi-region lead routing, retrofit document verification, and financing logic, without modifying core CRM code.
All custom logic was layered in a separate app, ensuring upgrade safety as Frappe CRM evolves. Native integration with ERPNext enabled seamless data flow between CRM, finance, manufacturing, and operations, eliminating manual data transfers and ensuring a single source of truth. Integrated telephony, WhatsApp communication, and automated lead ingestion further standardized the lead-to-conversion process across cities. This approach gave Exponent both flexibility and control, allowing rapid iteration while maintaining system stability.
